Ashington FC’s appeal against being expulsion from the Brooks Mileson Memorial League Cup has been thrown out by the FA.
The Colliers won their semi-final against Newton Aycliffe 3-1, but it was later revealed the club had fielded an ineligible player.
Following a meeting of the Ebac Northern League management committee, the Wansbeck club were withdrawn from the competition with Aycliffe reinstated.
But Ashington lodged an appeal to the FA, which was heard in Newcastle last Wednesday.
Club chairman Ian Lavery said after the hearing: “The club at all times have been above board about this issue, and the although the result of the FA appeal is disappointing, it’s not unexpected and it’s now time to dust ourselves down, draw a line and focus on the future.”
The final between Shildon and Newton Aycliffe was being held at Bishop Auckland’s Heritage Park this week.
