Ashington manager Gary Middleton has swooped to sign Brad McClelland from neighbours Alnwick Town.
And the teenager goes straight into the squad for Tuesday night’s Ebac Northern League first division clash against Durham City at Woodhorn Lane (December 9).
The 19-year-old has plundered 16 goals in 24 appearances for the St James Park outfit and believed the move was too good an opportunity to turn down.
The Ashington-born striker, who lives in Amble, said: “I was pleased to hear that Ashington were interested in me.
“I was enjoying my football at Alnwick but I felt I could not turn down the chance to play at a higher level and I’m looking forward to being in the squad against Durham City.”
Two of McClelland’s tally came recently against Whitley Bay in Alnwick’s agonising 6-4 extra time defeat in the Techflow Northumberland Senior Cup quarter-final tie at Hillheads.
Middleton said: “Brad is a promising player who is very strong for a young lad.
“He has scored lots of goals in the second division for Alnwick and we have monitored his progress during the season.
“I believe long term he will be a good addition and he comes into our squad at a much needed time with two of our strikers facing suspension.
“I’m thrilled to bits to sign Brad. Sometimes we have problems with our locality but he lives on the doorstep. He’s hungry to step up and that’s what we need.”
