Ashington Town Ladies beat league leaders

Ashington Town Ladies travelled to unbeaten top of the table Cramlington United on Sunday and returned with three points after a superb performance.

The hosts had taken a early lead with a long range effort from Emma Graham, but Ashington came back strongly and Lauren Townsend pressed a defender who put the ball past her own keeper.

On 35 minutes Ashington attacked and won a corner which was headed into the net by a defender to put them 2-1 ahead.

In the second half, Fairley and Blake both went close before a darting run and cross by Kristie Fenwick was stabbed in by Laura Blake.

Minutes later Fairley was brought down just outside the box and she hammered in the resulting free kick to make it 4-1.

The game ended on 86 minutes when Ashington defender Emma Ginger was taken to hospital with a bad injury and both teams agreed to finish the game with four minutes remaining.
