ASHINGTON will have to make the long trip back to Teesside later in the season for a rematch after Saturday’s Ebac Northern League first division clash was abandoned at half-time due to fog.

The Colliers, who went behind on the quarter hour mark, were leading 3-1 at the time after responding to the early setback in stunning fashion with three goals in the final 15 minutes before the break.

Striker Anthony Hume had given Ancients the lead, touching home a cross from Callum Martin.

But on the half hour, the equaliser came when home keeper James Provett upended Andrew Johnson inside the area and leading scorer Marc Walton made no mistake with a well struck penalty.

Three minutes later, Walton glanced on a ball played in by Craig Scott for Matty Grieve who took a touch then rifled home left footed.

Seconds from the break, James Taylor picked up a cross from the left then give Provett no chance with a crisp right footed drive from the edge of the area.

On Saturday, Ashington are at home to Bishop Auckland (3pm).

Ashington: Dryden, Williams, Scott, Antony, Atkin, Grieve, Johnson, J Taylor, Walton, G Taylor, Lough. Subs not used: Bainbridge, Molloy, Dugdale.
