Ashington Woodhorn Lane Ladies crashed out the Northumberland League Cup at a windy Hirst Welfare on Sunday in a hard fought encounter.
Lucy Johnson grabbed the all-important late winner for the visitors as they came from behind to progress to the semi final.
Ashington started well and Laura Telford, Laura Fairley and Sharon Bell all had chances before home keeper Nikita Johnston made a good save from Rhianna Telford.
They stormed ahead a minute before half-time when debutant Bell ran on to Danni Hooker’s through ball to drill home past Coomber.
In the second half Ashington were dealt injury blows as Telford and Bell were forced off and Lauren Kavanagh continued despite a broken toe.
Whitley Bay took control and Johnston was called upon to made a couple of good saves, but on 62 minutes Chloe Mark rifled home from just inside the box to level the scores.
Both teams had chances but it was the Bay who advanced when Lucy Johnson stroked home on 84 minutes.
