Bedlington Terriers re-sign goalkeeper Dan Staples

Goalkeeper Dan Staples has re-signed for Bedlington Terriers and is looking to make the number one spot his own.

The 24-year-old made 17 appearances last season before leaving due to personal reasons. But he said he is now fully focused on having a “successful” season.

The former Sunderland man said: “I am over the moon to be back with the club, obviously knowing Andy [Farrell] is there helps too, and he has made some good signings so the future is definitely looking positive.

“The number one position is very important to me. I’m still young and my priority is to play football and to keep the spot next season.

“I signed because I wanted to play under Andy, the club last season didn’t achieve what everyone said they were going to do, and that was possibly the reason why I left.”

Staples has a wealth of experience and believes there is no reason why Bedlington can’t get back to winning trophies in the near future.

He added: “This time around I am hoping for a top ten finish in the league. To win the league is very ambitious, but a good FA Cup and FA Vase run would also be nice.

“Teams will get a shock next season, obviously last season was disappointing and needs to be forgotten, we can only get stronger.

“All those cups are up for grabs and there is no reason why we can’t win one this season.”
