FORMER Ashington striker Phill Bell has rejoined the Colliers in a shock move that has saw Chris Fawcett return to Whitley Bay.
The switch comes ahead of this weekend’s FA Carlsberg Vase ties, and both players are expected to make their debuts in the respective ties on Saturday.
Ashington are against Norton & Stockton Ancients while Whitley Bay welcome Tadcaster Albion to Hillheads.
Ironically only last season, Bell – at Hillheads at the time - was involved in a straight swap deal involving Ashington’s Glen Taylor.
But before the start of this campaign, both players returned to their former clubs until Taylor moved down the coast to join Blyth Spartans.
The capture of Bell will ease Colliers boss Gary Middleton’s problems up front as the boss – already having to reckon without long term victims Stephen Young and Gareth Bainbridge through injury - has lost the services of striker Jamie Clarke to Whitby Town.
As a result Middleton played Fawcett and Jonny Godsmark up top in the Ashington’s last two matches against Newcastle Benfield and South Shields.
Full story and interviews will appear in next week’s editions of the News Post Leader and News Guardian.
