Tow Law 0-4 Blyth AFC

Michael Chilton scored a brace on an afternoon where Blyth AFC won Northern League Division Two after thrashing Tow Law Town 4-0 at Ironworks Road.

Steven Anderson struck the post on 31 minutes before Chilton broke the deadlock, tapping home three minutes later.

Bobby Taylor fired home a thunderous shot on 40 minutes as the Braves took a deserved two-goal lead into half-time.

Anderson was brought down in the penalty area on 54 minutes and Chilton made no mistake, slotting the spot kick into the bottom corner.

David Robinson then headed Sean McRoberts’ cross into the net two minutes later and the Braves could have scored more on a dominant afternoon.

The full-time whistle blew, the league title was sealed and the players and management alike began their celebrations.

Blyth lost their first game of 2018 on Thursday evening but knew a victory over Tow Law would see them crowned league champions.

The visitors started on the front foot and the pressure on Tow Law began from the first whistle.

There were several near misses and the home keeper had to make a good saves to deny both Anderson and Chilton.

The visitors were denied by the woodwork when Anderson struck an effort off the foot of the post.

But the Braves did manage to break the deadlock three minutes later when Chilton followed up on Orton’s low save and prodded the ball home.

Things got even better for Blyth six minutes later. Taylor picked up the ball to the left and lashed it over a helpless ‘keeper and into the roof of the net.

Anderson was involved in the action once again on 54 minutes as he was brought down in the area by Chris Renshaw. Chilton stepped up and slotted home the penalty into the bottom corner and a fourth goal soon followed on a glorious afternoon for the Blyth boys.

McRoberts made an instant impact, a minute after coming on as a substitute, as his cross found Robinson at the back post and the captain headed back across and into the net, signalling the start of the celebrations.
