Blyth Spartans announce five pre-season friendlies as preparations for National League North season move up a gear
Blyth Spartans have confirmed a large chunk of their pre-season schedule as preparations for the new National League North season move up a gear.
It has already been a busy close season at Croft Park as manager Michael Nelson made a strong start to his summer recruitment as the likes of Dan Maguire, Nathan Buddle and Michael Liddle all returned to the club after a two-season absence.
The Spartans boss has 14 players signed on and ready for the new season and he will hope to add more new faces over the coming weeks with a goalkeeper and a centre-back believed to be high on his list of priorities.
Pre-season training will get underway next month, and Spartans have now confirmed some friendly fixtures for July and August.
Their pre-season campaign gets underway on Saturday, July 10 when they travel to Northern Premier League East Division club Marske United for a midday kick-off.
Croft Park could then see the return of supporters for the first time in almost 18 months seven days later when Spartans host a home friendly, with the opposition to be confirmed.
Northern League Division One club North Shields will be the destination for Spartans on Wednesday, July 21 before they host South Shields three days later.
A trip to 2019/20 FA Vase winners Hebburn Town is scheduled for Saturday, July 31 and Northumberland neighbours Morpeth Town will visit Croft Park on Tuesday, August 3.
Spartans have also confirmed they are hoping to announce two further friendlies for Tuesday, July 27 and Saturday, August 7.
