As it will be Spartans’ opening home game of their packed pre-season schedule, it is hoped, with Covid-19 restrictions being lifted, that fans can return to the ground for the first time since February 2020.

Blyth last faced Boro four years ago, running out as 4-2 winners following goals from Dan Maguire, Robbie Dale, Dale Hopson and Jordan Laidler.

Manager Michael Nelson is delighted to be welcoming former Hartlepool United teammate Graham Lee and his young side to South-East Northumberland.

He said: "I'd like to say a massive thank you to Middlesbrough for sending a team up to play us.

"We've maintained a good relationship with the club on the back of loaning Zach Hemming a couple of seasons ago.

"I look forward to seeing our lads test themselves against quality and promising opposition."

The confirmation of the Middlesbrough friendly has added another fixture to what is already a busy pre-season programme – with further games to be announced for Tuesday, July 27th and Saturday, August 7th in due course.

Saturday, July 10th: Marske United (A). 12pm kick-off.

Saturday, July 17th: Middlesbrough U23s (H). 3pm kick-off.

Wednesday, July 21st: North Shields (A). 7:45pm kick-off.

Saturday, July 24th: South Shields (H). 3pm kick-off.

Saturday, July 31st: Hebburn Town (A). 3pm kick-off.

Tuesday, August 3rd: Morpeth Town (H). 7:45pm kick-off.

Supporters who purchase a 21/22 season ticket will gain free entry into all of Spartans’ home pre-season fixtures.
