The under-12 girls of Blyth Town Barca are enjoying a successful first season together in the Pinpoint Recruitment Northumberland Girls Football League.
With a sponsorship deal with Blyth business Kingsway Garage, who funded the strips, the girls played against North Shields on Saturday in the semi-final of the U12 Wade Financial Cup at Benfield Sports Centre, which they won 4-0.
With only a few games they are also very much in with a chance of winning the league.
They are off to Blackpool to play in an annual tournament at the end of May to continue their development and promote girls’ football further which is very much in the national media courtesy of the #thisgirlcan campaign.
They will also play in a North of England tournament at the beginning of July.
Their progress can be followed at www.clubwebsite.co.uk/blythtownbarca
There are opportunities for other local businesses to help the team continue to play football around the region through sponsorship.
The team and their parents raise money throughout the year doing various fundraising events and the club said any help from local businesses is welcome.
Next season the girls move up to nine-a-side from the current seven and will be looking for players to attend trials at the end of the season.
Contact details for the coaches are on the club’s website.
