Burradon hit 16 in their cup win

First round ties took place in the Standard Security Blyth and Wansbeck Sunday League George Davison Cup at the weekend.

Premier division Blyth Comrades enjoyed a 5-2 win over new league side Stakeford Cherry Tree thanks to goals from Terry Self (3) and Daniel Long (2). Jack Rutherford and Ashley Duff scored for Cherry Tree.

Newsham Victory won 6-2 at home against another new side Blyth Isabella Colliery. Paul Stephens and Barry Newton scored for Vic. Goals for Isabella came from James Arkless (2), Jordon Wilse, Scott Jenkinson, Eoin Ridley and Todd Musgrave.

In round one of the Saints Shield there were wins for Ashington White House and Blyth Last Orders.

White House won 2-1 at home against Blyth Waterloo with goals from Trevor Newman and Andrew McLennen. Gary Adamson scored for Waterloo.

Last Orders won 5-1 at Marden Residents, with Kevin Salmon scoring Residents’ consolation. On target for Last Orders were Andrew Scott, Adam Hughes, Ross Gilchrist, Mathew Wade and Andrew Farrier.

In round one of the Alan Davison Cup, Burradon and New Fordley had little trouble reaching the next round as they scored 16 away to AE Phoenix, who grabbed a consolation goal from David Sturgeon. Goals for Burradon came from Ian Lee (3), Andrew Keenan (3), Daniel Young (3) and Kieron Pyle (3), Ryan Hutchinson (2), Joe Bestford and David Atkinson.

In the premier division, Ashington Bubbles were leading at home against Ashington Grand until two players had to leave to attend a christening and Grand took full advantage and scored six goals. Michael Todd scored three, Kyle Downey (2), and Paul Hedley added their final goal. Brent Aisbitt scored for Bubbles.

Cramlington Phoenix went down 3-2 at home against Forest Hall. Jamie Summers scored both for Phoenix. Joe Kennedy (2) and Graham Murray scored for the visitors.

Lynemouth Institute went down 5-2 at home against New Delaval and Newsham. Marc Richardson and Mark Laidler scored for Institute. On target for the visitors was Craig Frazer (4) and Ian Locke.

In an excellent game between North Shields Royal Arms and Wansbeck Flavour Bar, the game was decided by one goal scored by Richard Hall for Flavour Bar.

The only game in division one saw Ashington Excelsior win 7-0 away against Blyth United Services with goals from Steven Gardner (2), Jamie Graham (2), Michael Robinson, Chris Green and John Henderson.
