Ashington CFC have further bolstered their squad by confirming the signing of teenager David Carson.
And striker Carson made an immediate impact in scoring a hat-trick in Saturday’s victory over Shankhouse.
Ashington assistant manager Briggs said: “Carson was at Jarrow Roofing last season. I have watched him over a number of years and his progress has been very good.
“His attitude in training and in games has been first class and his work ethic is what our team needs.
“I reckon David has a big future in the game.”
South Shields born Carson, 17, who is based at Boldon Colliery, said: “I reckon I scored 15 goals or more for Jarrow Roofing last term, and this is a great opportunity for me to improve my game by playing around good players – and at a high standard.
“Pre-season has gone well for me so far and I’m looking forward to the start.”
After wrapping up their fourth win out of five warm-up games last weekend at Shankhouse, Briggs added: “The commitment and attitude of the players in training has been brilliant and that has showed in games.
“We have conceded a couple of sloppy goals which has to be addressed, but overall I’m happy with the way things are progressing – and going forward we are a force to be reckoned with.”
On Saturday, Ashington are at home to Prestwich Heys with a 3pm kick-off.
