Cold weather hits Sunday league programme

Burradon and New Fordley must try again on Sunday to play their NFA County Cup match after officials deemed the pitch at Newburn unplayable at the weekend.

Meanwhile, all games in the Standard Security Blyth and Wansbeck Sunday League premier division were also postponed due to frozen pitches.

Fortunately some games were played in division one.

Newbiggin Bankhouse had a 3-1 home win against Ashington Excelsior with Paul Cooper, David Jobson and Karl Davison on target. Jordan Anderson scored Excelsior’s consolation.

AE Phoenix’s recent good form went out the window at home against Stakeford Cherry Tree as they went down 5-2 at home. Kevin Chapman and Jason Wilson scored for Phoenix, but goals from Mathew Wilkinson, Mark Wilkinson, Simon Scobie, Ashley Duff and Jake Gray won it for Stakeford.

Blyth South Beach continued their good form with a 4-2 win at Blyth United Services. On target for Services were Danny Halliday and Daniel Miller, but a Cutis Miller hat-trick and a goal for Ryan McKee sealed the three points for South Beach.

All other games in the division were off.
