Colliers bring in Alexander from Spartans

ASHINGTON manager Gary Middleton has taken steps to bolster his strike force with the signing of John Alexander from Blyth Spartans.

The switch is an initial one month loan and Alexander, nicknamed ‘The Bull’ has previously played in the Northern League for Marske, Billingham Town and Spennymoor.

He goes into the squad for the League Cup tie with Chester-Le-Street at Woodhorn Lane tonight but he is FA Cup tied so will be unable to play at Grimsby Town.

Spartans Manager Steve Cuggy said: “We’ve left John to Ashington to allow him play first team football.

“With the new signing of Richard Offiong and with Glen Taylor and Phil Bannister regaining fitness, this is something that we could no longer guarantee John at Croft Park, so the move makes sense.”
