Ashington CFC venture into the unknown on Saturday when they host Pontefract Collieries in the Extra Preliminary round of the FA Cup.

Collieries are members of the Northern Counties East League division one and drew 0-0 against Shirebrook Town in their opening league fixture on Saturday.

“Apart from the possibly of making the club a little bit of money from a run in the competition, it also gives the players a chance to pit their skills against different and unknown opposition,” said manager Ashington Gary Middleton.

“We will be doing our utmost to try and get a result but there are no foregone conclusions in this game.

“It is going to be a tough clash.”

Should the game end in stalemate, the replay has been arranged for Tuesday, August 20, with a 7.30pm kick-off.

Alternatively, if there is a result on the day, Ashington will still be in action on the Tuesday evening in a scheduled Ebac Northern League first division match against Bishop Auckland at Heritage Park.
