Northumberland Schools FA U18s started their campaign with a 4-3 away win against Cumbria.

The visitors started the game well, dominating possession and opened the scoring on eight minutes through Oliver Young (RGS).

On 16 minutes, Adam Baines (Ashington HS) got on the end of a Liam Doyle (TyneMet) pass into the box, forcing a save from the goalkeeper who could only parry the ball but was on hand to fire the rebound home.

It was 3-0 in the closing stages of the first half as a well worked corner found Baines who headed in.

It only took three minutes of the second half before Nick Jarvis Smith (St Cuthbert’s) added a fourth by getting on the end of a cross to head the ball past the goalkeeper.

Northumberland started to make some problems for themselves through some misplaced passes and Cumbria pulled three goals back but it was the visitors, who had chances to increase their lead, held on for the win.
