New Hartley Juniors handed former Carlisle United trainee keeper Tom Crainey his debut and he responded by keeping their first clean sheet of the season in a hard fought win against Shildon.

This was the first ever meeting between the two clubs with Shildon riding high having lost only once in six games this season.

Hartley took the lead on 20 minutes through Femi Williams.

The lead was doubled five minutes later with a sweet effort from Tyler Davis.

With players now coming back from holiday and returning to fitness, this was Hartley’s best performance of the season with man of the match Oscar Mitchell outstanding at the back helping keep that first clean sheet as the final score remained 2-0.

Hartley are next in action this Saturday with a trip to another Northern League youth outfit, Norton & Stockton Ancients.
