Ashington manager Gary Middleton has dipped into the transfer market last week to sign defender Phil Lumsden.
The 29-year-old Newcastle born lynchpin needs no introduction to Colliers supporters, who over recent years saw him and Kevin Leighton thwart their team in matches against Newcastle Benfield.
Lumsden, a PE assistant at Gosforth Junior High School, was at Team Northumbria last season.
He said: “I’m delighted to be here. Having played against Ashington, I knew what they were like and after a quick conversation with the management team of Gary Middleton and Perry Briggs, they sold me the club straight away.”
Lumsden watched his new team-mates in action in their replay win in the FA Cup against Holker in midweek.
He added: “I have recently been away on holiday so my first priority is to build my fitness back up then look to try and get into the team.
“I thought it was a great performance by the lads (against Holker) when they scored some terrific goals.”
