EAST Northumberland lost a second semi-final when they went down 4-2 against Gateshead on Saturday.
Disappointed manager Paul Messenger said: “Gateshead led 3-0 at half-time through our defensive mistakes, but after the break we came back and played really well.
“We scored two quick goals and had we gone on to get an equaliser, I’m sure we would have gone on to win the game.”
In the Tyne & Wear League, a brace from Reece Ramsay secured the points in a 2-1 win over North Tyneside to keep East North on track for the title.
After half an hour, Ramsay won the ball and then went on to finish well, but within 20 seconds of the second half, North Tyneside levelled.
With only eight minutes remaining, Dan Costello slipped Ramsay in and he rounded the keeper and slotted home the winner.
East Northumberland were due to play this midweek and then host Chester le Street at Chantry Middle School on Wednesday, April 13.
If they win both they win the Tyne & Wear League.
Meanwhile, after a 4-2 defeat by Newcastle City, East North have finished runners-up in the Northumberland League.
