Ellington Juniors net £1,000 donation from Persimmon Homes
A junior football team has netted a donation to help the club off the pitch.
Players and supporters of Ellington Juniors Football Club bid to win a £1,000 cash award to help kit out a kitchen in their new clubhouse.
And after applying to Persimmon Homes Community Champions fund for the money, they were selected as the north east regional winners for March.
Sarah Gair, who made the bid on behalf of the club, said: “We are fortunate to have been gifted a nine-acre site to build football pitches and a clubhouse, and have just reached our fundraising target for that, with work likely to start in June.
“Now we just need to raise the funds to fit out the clubhouse kitchen with fridge, freezer, cooker and utensils. This donation will be added to the mix to help us achieve that goal.
“We are committed to providing the club with all the facilities for the 130 young players who train and play for us and to improving their health and fitness opportunities.”
Debbie Zaben, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes North East, said: “The club has already achieved a major goal by securing the funds needed to start work on building the new facilities. They and their supporters clearly put a lot of effort in off the pitch to reach this stage and we are pleased we can help with some of the kitchen kit.
“This is exactly what our scheme is all about. We are supporting good causes to make a positive change.”
The Persimmon Community Champions initiative is a national programme in which charities and groups can apply for funding up to £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves. Each of Persimmon Homes’ 30 regions has two awards to hand out each month.
