ELLINGTON Juniors Under-9s raced into a 2-0 lead with early goals from Sidney Ramm and Jack Blyth against Ponteland.
But the visitors responded and took a 3-2 lead at half-time, despite some good saves from goalkeeper Cameron Scott.
Ponteland extended their lead in the second half to 5-3, but a late rally from Ellington saw the game level at 5-5 with goals from Ramm and Joe Beattie.
Ponteland restored their lead with an effort that deflected in off the post, and Ellington were unlucky not to equalise as Ethan Common’s spectacular long range effort crashed against the bar in the last minute.
Ellington are away to Walker Whites next Sunday.
