Extra-time agony for New Hartley in cup semi-final

For the second time this season New Hartley Juniors lost to Seaham in a cup semi-final by a single goal in extra time.

Earlier in the season, Seaham, the newly crowned league champions, beat Hartley 1-0 in the County Cup semi-final after extra time 1-0, and it took a further 30 minutes of action on Saturday for them to see off ten-man Hartley in the Lady Eden Cup.

With no score at the interval, it took only a minute of the second half for the deadlock to be broken and it was Callum Johnston that put Hartley in front.

But midway through the half Seaham levelled with a header from England schoolboy Jordan Skeleton.

Soon after New Hartley were reduced to ten men when defender Marcus McCreedy got his marching orders for a second bookable offence.

A fantastic game and a great advert for junior football saw the tie remain 1-1 and head into extra time.

Penalties seemed to be on the cards but with five minutes to go a slip by Craney in the Hartley goal allowed winger Adam Wright to chip the ball into the empty net to put Seaham into the final.

Hartley round off the season on Saturday with a home game against Willington with a 1.30pm kick-off.
