BLYTH Spartans striker Craig Farrell made it five goals in six pre-season fixtures against Team Northumbria on Saturday but insisted that there is room for improvement from his side.
A sloppy first half showing saw the visitors pressure Spartans and it took some serious talking at half-time to get a reaction from Tommy Cassidy’s side.
The former Carlisle United man said: “It was hit and miss today, first half we were second best all over the park but we lifted it after half-time and Tom Burj gave us more energy in midfield.
“We were cruising at 3-0 but some silly mistakes let them back into it.”
Farrell went on to praise young midfielder Burj for the impact he had not only today but during pre-season as a whole.
“We were lethargic but Tom lifted the tempo and it spread around the team,” added Farrell.
“It’s a shame we let them back in but Tom gave us the lift we needed.”
Being frank about his side’s preparations for the season, Farrell added: “We are getting there but to be honest we still need to lift ourselves 20 per cent at least but I haven’t come here to be mid-table, we all need to push on to ensure that we get where we should be.”
