ASHINGTON CFC manager Gary Middleton has swooped in the transfer market to sign former Blyth Spartans defender Gareth Williams from neighbours Whitley Bay.
Middleton made his move with Williams putting pen to paper on Tuesday night – which coincided with the club’s first training session of the season.
A delighted Middleton said: “Gareth is another excellent addition to the squad.
“He has a vast amount of experience after being with Blyth Spartans and has an FA Vase winners medal with Whitley Bay.
“He is a versatile player who can play in a variety of positions - and will be utilised with that ability in mind. I’m thrilled to have him – he brings a lot to the dressing room with his knowledge and experience.”
Williams becomes Middleton’s third arrival during the close season, following closely behind midfielder Paul Antony and defender Phil Cave.
