Two youngsters from Northumberland last week played their part in England Boys Club Under-17s winning the four nations tournament held at Bangor.

Ashington-based Callum Johnston and Callum Uddgren, from Blyth, were both on the score sheet as England beat Scotland 2-0 in their opening game.

Next up, the following day, Johnston netted a dramatic equaliser with the last kick of the game in a 2-2 draw with Northern Ireland before England clinched the tournament after beating Wales 6-0.

Johnston, who plays for Ashington High School, and Uddgren for Red House Farm Juniors, were awarded England caps.

The pair also played for New Hartley Juniors last season and have again signed on for the outfit for the start of the new campaign.

England manager Alan Watson watched Johnston and Uddgren in action for New Hartley and Northumberland Schools Under-16s before calling up both as well as selecting Newcastle-based Joe Robson and Elliott Tate.

Meanwhile England Boys Club coaches Chris Bannon – who recently signed for Ashington – and Richie Latimer also have connections with New Hartley as well as the Colliers.
