Guisborough boss believes his side deserved win over Ashington
Guisborough Town boss Steve Dowling believed his side deserved their victory over Ashington on Saturday.
Dowling, recently appointed in the hot seat to replace Chris Hardy who left to take over the managerial role at Whitby Town, acknowledged that his side faced a tough afternoon against the Colliers.
He said: “I know we played in conditions of a swirling wind, but to be fair I thought Ashington were the better team in the first half.
“They were strong and physical and got into good areas.
“We defended OK in the first 45 minutes kicking into the wind with the back four and goalkeeper Nick [Liversedge] quite solid, and I wasn’t unhappy.
“I thought we slightly shaded the second period, and although it’s a tricky one, I thought we deserved the victory – a hard fought one at that – against a very good Ashington side.
“We are a fit team and I always know that in the last 20 minutes my team are going to come on strong as we have a lot of energy and a lot of young lads with pace.”
