Bedlington’s Ashington born defender James Harmison is a major doubt for the Bank Holiday Monday derby clash at Woodhorn Lane (11am kick-off).
The 33-year-old said at the weekend: “I’m hoping to be fit but I think it will be a long shot as I’ve got to be rated very doubtful.
“I picked up a calf injury in the pre-season friendly at Bridlington and apart from rest, I’m also having treatment.
“I trained hard over the summer with running and gym work and was really pleased, so when the injury came at Bridlington – and I felt a tear – it was a real blow.
“I’m looking to return as soon as possible whilst at the same time knowing full well that I cannot rush things otherwise I will be out for a longer period of time.
“I’m getting better all the time, and although injuries are part and parcel of football, I’ll be very disappointed if I am forced to miss the derby.”
Harmison is named in the Ashington squad for the Les Alderson Memorial Cup game at the Lane on Sunday (2pm) and like last year may make the briefest of appearances before being replaced.
