Ashington manager Steve Harmison has thrown down the gauntlet and challenged his players to hit back and produce the goods following Saturday’s 6-2 thumping at Consett when they entertain Guisborough in the quarter-finals of the Brooks Mileson Memorial League Cup at Woodhorn Lane on Tuesday night.

A clearly disappointed Harmison said: “On Tuesday night there has to be a reaction. We are down to the bare bones, today we only had three outfield substitutes and have two missing on Tuesday.

“James Harmison had to come off with a slight injury, which is going to make him touch and go for the cup tie, but we’ll give it our best shot.”

The Priorymen went to the top of the Ebac Northern League’s first division following their single goal victory over West Allotment Celtic at the weekend.

Kick-off in the March 3 cup tie is 7.45pm
