Hat-trick from Wright turns game around

ASHINGTON Ladies extended their good run to ten games unbeaten and remain top of the league after a 4-1 victory at Walbottle on Sunday.

Things started badly for the Angels as they went behind after some sloppy defending, with Bowman slotting home.

Ashington had plenty of possession and it paid off on 25 minutes when Kristie Fenwick’s cross beat everyone in defence and fell to Karen Wright who prodded home the equaliser from close range.

Stacey Naples went close with two efforts before Wright added her second with another well taken goal.

After 35 minutes Georgia Latto set up leading scorer Laura Jobson who rifled a superb shot into the top corner, and shortly before half-time Wright completed her hat-trick when she met a superb cross by Megan Tighe to make it 4-1.

After being injured in pre-season friendlies, Ashington’s Danielle Clasper came on for her first taste of league action for the last quarter hour.

On Sunday, Ashington Ladies take on second placed Lowick at Pegswood Welfare kick-off 2pm.

In the third qualifying round of the FA Cup, the Ladies have been drawn against California Ladies from South Bank on November 13 with the game being staged at Woodhorn Lane.
