Heavy rain limits games in Northern Alliance

With persistent rain falling all week on already waterlogged pitches, the Northern Alliance programme took another heavy hit on Saturday.

Whitley Bay A beat Wallington 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out after the game had ended goal less to go into the Les Todd Northumberland FA Senior Benevolent Bowl semi-finals. Keeper Michael Hammond saved twice to earn the plaudits.

Dean Laycock and Steve McLaughlin fired in for Newcastle Chemfica (Independent) as they secured a spot in the Northumberland FA Minor Cup semi-finals by beating Ponteland United.

Kev Bell’s double for Wooler was cancelled out by two Dan Clements strikes for Newcastle Uni in a promotion-chasing division one clash.

Shaun Sager hit a hat-trick for Grainger Park in an exciting ten-goal second division encounter with Newcastle Benfield on the 3G pitch at Blakelaw.

Liam Anderson struck twice and Nathan Lowdon got the other with Ben Jefferson also crashing in three times for Benfield Reserves as the game swung from end-to-end. Andrew McBride was also on target.

Chris Marshall was a hat-trick hero for High Howdon in their Friday night encounter at West Allotment Celtic A. Luke Molloy got the other, with Shaun Boyle striking for Celtic.
