Holders AFC Newbiggin booked their place in the quarter-finals of the NFA Minor Cup with a comprehensive 5-0 win over Seaton Burn.
But it was the home side who went close to opening the scoring on five minutes, but keeper Craig Towart denied them.
Newbiggin went 1-0 up 12 minutes in when a run from Ross Muter saw him set up Kevin Halliday on the left and he finished the move off.
A minute later Newbiggin were awarded a penalty after Halliday slipped into Seaton Burn’s box yet again but this time he was taken down by a defender. John Bone stepped up and tucked away the penalty.
Seaton Burn went close to pulling a goal back but Towart superbly saved an effort destined for the top corner.
A minute before the interval Muter ran into the box which proved to be a great move as he finished superbly for 3-0 at half-time.
Twenty minutes from time Newbiggin were awarded a free kick which was taken quickly and Brent Aisbitt latched onto it and blasted it into the roof of the net.
Michael Angus then came on as a substitute and tucked away a rebound after Muter’s shot was saved by the keeper.
