In-form Ashington make it seven wins in a row at Sunderland

A convincing performance saw Ashington rack up a seventh consecutive victory with a 4-0 victory over Sunderland RCA at Meadow Lane on Tuesday night.

The Colliers took an early lead when Glen Taylor headed home a free kick by Andrew Johnson.

Then within a quarter of an hour it was Taylor who added a second.

Shortly before half-time Tony Stephenson made it three, finishing another well worked goal for the Colliers.

Dylan Williamson chipped the home keeper to cap the night off for the Wansbeck side with a fourth after the break.

The result saw Steve Harmison’s side complete a season’s double over the Sunderland-based outfit.

And the win also saw Ashington go top of the Northern League first division form table, only a matter of weeks since sitting second bottom of the guide.

On Saturday, Ashington take on Newton Aycliffe in their final home league game of the season. Kick-off at Woodhorn Lane is 3pm.
