Blyth Spartans winger Jarrett Rivers has put pen to paper on a contract at the club.

Signed from Whitley Bay during the summer, Rivers impressed in pre-season, scoring a wonder goal in the 3-2 defeat to Newcastle United Under-21s that went on to be one of the most viewed videos on Spartans official YouTube channel BSAFCTV.

After initially starting the season on the bench, Rivers has battled his way into the starting line-up and has impressed in recent fixtures with his hard-working and skilful play.

Spartans manager Tom Wade was delighted to see the former Middlesbrough Academy player put pen to paper.

“He’s done really well recently and he has excited us since he came in during the summer,” said Wade.

“It’s a reward for a young player who has come in and done exactly what we have asked of him, so I am pleased for him.”

Wade also praised the Spartans board and expressed his hopes that the deal shows the club’s commitment to their young players.

He added: “I have to thank the board because they have backed our judgement and obviously the player’s ability.

“We want to hold on to our best players and this shows our commitment to doing so.”
