Ashington Woodhorn Lane Ladies played South Shields FC Ladies in a pre-season friendly at the Hirst Welfare on Sunday and the newly formed team had a convincing 4-1 victory.
The visitors took an early lead after a mix-up in the home defence, but Ashington got back into the game in the middle of the half.
Ex-Doncaster Belles and Leeds United player Aaron Embleton produced a piece of class with a mazy dribble to beat three defenders before stroking the ball past the oncoming keeper for the equaliser.
Laura Jobson and Meghan Tighe both went close before Jade Cappleman in the home goal pulled off a great save from the Shields centre forward.
In the second half Ashington stepped up a gear and played some really good football.
Tighe completed a good passing move with Becky Skeldon and hammered home, then Tighe added a third.
Debutant Danielle Hooker rounded off a pleasing performance with a well taken goal as the Ladies step up their pre-season in readiness for kicking off their campaign in the Northumberland County Ladies Football League.
The team are still looking to add to their squad. Interested girls over 16 years of age should contact secretary Mick Straker on 07990 772895.
