BLYTH Rangers Valencia remain fourth in the under-16s league three after losing their first match of the season in an entertaining game against Wideopen Juniors.

They almost took the lead in the opening minutes when man of the match Liam Sinkinson came in from the left but his chip over the advancing keeper bounced back off the crossbar.

Wideopen went in front when Blyth’s defence was caught ball watching and was punished by a low finish across goal.

A Sinkinson cross from the right was met by Ross Laidlaw and his first time volley beat the keeper as Blyth levelled just minutes later.

But the visitors regained the lead before half-time.

A number of changes in the second half saw Blyth immediately start to control the game.

It was all Blyth pressure, with Josh Carr almost grabbing an equaliser but his shot was well saved early on.

But for all Blyth’s pressure the ball just would not fall for them.

Sinkinson almost grabbed an equaliser in the final minute but his shot was turned round the post.
