MORPETH Town completed their pre-season preparations at a rain lashed Craik Park when they played Northern Alliance champions Ponteland United.
On three minutes Hall broke down the left, cut inside and laid the ball to Dormand who opened the scoring with a composed finish, guiding the ball over the Ponteland keeper into the top corner of the net.
Morpeth continued to dominate possession, on 15 minutes Keenan drove down the left cut inside the full back and fired home from 12 yards to make it 2-0.
Morpeth extended their lead five minutes from half time when Dormand won the ball on half way and his defence splitting pass played in Andrews who from the edge of the box slotted the ball under the keeper to make it 4-0.
A minute later Hall linked up with Dormand who strode down the left and hit an unstoppable shot to score his second goal.
Straight from the kick off Morpeth regained possession. Dormand and Hall exchanged passes on the edge of the box, Dormand went round the right back and rolled the ball across the six yard box into the path of McAlpine who slid the ball under the keeper to make the half time score 5-0 to Morpeth.
The second half commenced in a down pour. On a slick surface Fry won the ball in his own half and carried the ball forward into the Ponteland half. Andrews latched onto his precise pass to make it 6-0.
On 60 minutes a further cloud burst rendered the pitch unplayable and the referee abandoned the game.
The hard work put in by Nick Gray’s young squad in pre-season gave Morpeth a fully deserved victory, and this performance bodes well for the first league game of the season at Washington on Saturday.
The away fixture against North Shields has now been brought forward to Friday, August 26, kick-off 7.30pm.
Morpeth’s first home game of the season will be the local derby with Alnwick Town on Monday, August 29, kick-off at noon.
