Bricklayer Joe Moscrop cemented Ashington’s progress into the semi-finals of the Brooks Mileson Memorial League Cup on Tuesday night with the all important winner six minutes before half-time.
It was the 27-year-old’s first goal for the senior side.

He said: “When the free kick came in, I made a run to the back post and Kyle Oliver has squared the ball across. It was a tap-in from three yards, but I was elated.
“It was my first ever goal for the first team and I’m over the moon that we have progressed into the semi-finals.”
Although Moscrop was the match-winner, the midfielder described the victory as a ‘team effort’.
“Obviously the team have worked hard to get us through,” he said.
“The second half against the wind was hard work but we got there in the end.”
Moscrop said he is delighted with his elevation into the senior squad.
“I’m enjoying my time since I joined the first team squad recently from the reserves, and who knows what the future holds for me,” he said.
“Things seem to be going well for us, especially at home, and I’m delighted.”
