NEW Hartley Juniors’s hopes of reaching a fourth cup final of the season were dashed with
a 3-2 defeat against Sunderland-based Lampton Street.
Hartley had qualified for the John Maley League Cup last four with a 2-0 win at Ryhope on Monday with goals from Kyle Downey and Sam Norris.
On Saturday, it was Hartley who took the lead on 25 minutes when skipper David Luke headed home only for Lampton to fight back with a Callon just before half-time.
Lampton went in front with a Luke Richardson penalty and then a second for Callon.
Peter Ravenhill saw a penalty well saved by Nik Ling in the Lampton goal, but he did pull one back to make it 3-2 in the closing stages but Lampton hung on to make it to the final.
Hartley are next in action on Wednesday night with a home league game against Cowgate and on Saturday face Redcar at Bedlington Terriers’ ground with a 1.30pm kick-off.
