After losing 5-2 at Stockton on Saturday, New Hartley Juniors bounced back to winning ways by beating Benfield in The John Maley League Cup in midweek.
The first half saw Hartley top scorer Adam Bains put his side one up and the same player could have made it two when he rounded the keeper only to hit the post.
On the hour Hartley doubled their lead when a Benfield defender headed into his own goal from a Tom Potter cross.
Benfield were awarded a penalty but Dillon Blakes’ strike was saved by Liam Dodds in the Hartley goal.
Moments later, though, Blake made amends when he pulled one back to make it 2-1.
But Hartley managed to hang on and now face a trip to Wallsend Boys Club in the quarter-final.
