New Hartley Juniors have started the new year as they mean to go on by going top of the Durham under-18s league with a 5-1 win against a tough Spennymoor side.
The first 20 minutes was fairly even until Andy Knott headed Hartley in front.
Hartley then pressed on, and Lewis Xiberras made it 2-0 on the half-hour.
Spennymoor kept coming back strongly, but two quickfire goals before half-time, another by Xiberras and one by Ben Sampson, made it 4-0.
New Hartley also missed a penalty just before the break.
Spennymoor started the second half the brighter, going close on a few occasions, and scored a penalty on 55 minutess by Morgan Clayton.
The County Durham side kept pressing, but an own goal on 75 minutes, making it 5-1, saw the Northumbrians pick up the three points they needed to send them top.
