It was a tough but entertaining game as always with the Sunderland club.

Lambton started well, closing quickly and passing well, and a mistake by Hartley resulted in the Sunderland side going in front through Cameron Fenton.

Hartley then took over and created numerous chances. Reece Charlton hit the bar and then the post before Ryan McKie was also denied by the woodwork.

In the second half Hartley started well and had another couple half chances, but on the hour Chris Bell curled in a fantastic free kick right in top corner.

Hartley replied instantly with a fine strike by Jack Cooper to reduce the arrears.

Sunderland keeper Sam Bell was in fine form, and Bell again hit the bar, this time from a free kick, before Cooper went close in the last minute.

New Hartley have a Durham County Cup semi-final on Saturday at the Riverside, Chester-le-Street against Shildon, kick-off 1.30pm.
