Ashington Woodhorn Ladies FC have amalgamated with Ashington Town.
Director Ian Jobson said: “Ashington Woodhorn Ladies FC are proud to announce they have entered into partnership with Ashington Town and will now be known as Ashington Town Ladies.
“The team was originally formed in 2013 and are the only senior women’s side in the Ashington area.
“As part of the agreement, the outfit will now be based at the academy at Josephine Butler Campus and will play all of their home games there.
“The club will be run by the existing board of directors with Stephen Gibbard continuing as manager of the team.”
Jobson continued: “We’ve come a long way as a club since we were formed two years ago, especially as we were independent of any bigger organisation.
“We had a small group of people who had to build a club from nothing.
“We had been looking at ways we could develop a junior section for the club so this partnership ticks a lot of boxes for both us and Ashington Town as they will now have a senior women’s team, enabling their girls to continue to play competitive football beyond the age of 16.
“The quality of coaching and the resources the junior teams have access to makes us confident ladies football in the town has a bright future.
“The facilities available to us at the Josephine Butler Campus are the best in the area and they are in the process of making further improvements.
“This partnership was very much the right move for everyone involved and we’re looking forward to working closely with Ashington Town over the coming years.”
