What a week for Ashington-born Adam Harvey – a first start and a goal.
The 20-year-old, signed from neighbours Bedlington Terriers a few days before the transfer deadline, was in then line-up for the 1-0 defeat against North Shields then scored his first goal for the Colliers on Saturday which set them on the road to a 3-0 victory over Jarrow Roofing.
And Scotland Gate-based Harvey admitted to being on ‘cloud nine’ after making two eye-catching appearances for the club, which came hard on the heels of a 25-minute display as a substitute in the 5-0 drubbing over Consett.
“It’s been fantastic for me to come into the side,” he said.
“The lads have been great and welcomed me with open arms.”
He was delighted as his 25-yard left foot effort put Ashington into the lead at Jarrow.
“At Consett I set up Ben Harmison’s hat-trick goal, and it was great to open my account today.
“I made a perfect connection with the ball, which was going away from the keeper, and it was one of those where I knew it was going in as soon as the ball left my foot.”
Harvey is now looking to establish his place in the side.
“Things are going very well for me,” he added.
“I got into the side and have given 100 per cent in every game. We have got seven matches of the season left and I’m hoping we can kick on.
“I prefer to play higher up the pitch to get amongst the goals and create opportunities, but I can also do a job at full back as well.
“Ashington are a great club and I’ve been on ‘cloud nine’ ever since I joined.”
