AFC Newbiggin secured an excellent three points on Saturday as they travelled to top of the table Percy Main on Saturday afternoon.
Ten minutes into the game Newbiggin were given a corner which was fumbled across the box and Martin Humble scrambled in it.
Percy Main had tried to clear the ball off the line and appealed against the goal, but the official’s decision stood.
Shortly after, Percy broke the offside trap and had a one-on-one with keeper Craig Towart, who made a crucial save to give the away side the interval lead.
Midway through the second half Newbiggin made it 2-0.
A short corner played to man of the match Ashley Smyth, playing against his former club, saw him set up Kris Allington who applied the finish a few yards out.
Main clawed one back 13 minutes from time from a corner.
Two minutes from time Michael Hogg hit the inside of the post and the ball was cleared off the line by a home defender.
A deserved win for Newbiggin who were missing five key players.
Newbiggin close the gap at the top to five points with a game in hand and hope to carry on their run against Cramlington Town this Saturday.
