Ashington CFC have signed Sam Norris Newcastle Benfield.
The 19-year-old winger is the latest addition to the Colliers squad ahead of the 2013-14 season.
Ashington boss Gary Middleton said: “Sam is an exciting signing. He has a lot of potential and impressed me on the two or three occasions when I saw him last year, including his performance against us at Sam Smiths Park.
“He brings a lot of pace and creativity to our attacking game – that’s why we wanted to bring him in – and will be a good addition to the squad.
“We hope he will hit the ground running.”
Newcastle born Norris said: “Perry Briggs, the assistant manager at Woodhorn Lane, had a big influence on my decision because he gave me my chance at Benfield, but I had heard that Ashington were a well run club who had a good fan base and I wanted to join a club like this.
“I’m excited about playing for them and am looking forward to joining a side who could be chasing the title.”
Briggs added: “I saw him playing at New Hartley Juniors and my immediate reaction was this kid has got a chance because he’s very quick and direct.
“He can play on either flank or through the middle as a centre forward, and although he has still got a lot to learn, could be one for the future.
“He is a good lad who is willing to learn and wants to play at the highest level – and Ashington is the next step up for him.
“We have high hopes for Sam at Ashington.”
