North End wrap up division two title season with narrow win

In division one of the Morpeth Sunday League this week, Bedlington Barrington Arms recorded a solid 3-0 home win over Stobswood.

They took the lead midway through the first half after a superb diagonal cross from youngster Kieran Eagan was headed home by marauding full back Daniel Dargue.

Bedlington doubled their advantage in the second half as a long throw-in was flicked across the box by Chris Dobey and David Scott met the ball with a powerful close-range header which flew into the left hand corner of the goal.

The win was wrapped up when captain Calum Donohoe played a long ball behind the defence which was chased by David Scott and headed the ball past the on-rushing goalkeeper before tucking it into the empty net.

In the other division one game, Amble Tavern and The Wharton Arms battled to a 1-1 draw. Lee Harker was on target for Amble while The Wharton goal was scored by Simon Cunningham.

In division two, newly crowned champions North End Trap wrapped up their league campaign with a narrow 2-1 win over The Elephant.

Kevin Bell and Anthony Towers both notched for North End with The Elephant goal coming from John Saunders.

HMP Northumberland recorded a great 8-1 win over Ashington Conchie with Paul Cochran (4) Declan Fusco (2) Dan Reeves and Jonathan Dodd on target. The Ashington goal was a brilliant 40-yard free kick from striker Michael Freathy.

Finally this week Morpeth Shambles edged out Alnmouth Argyle 3-2.
