Northumberland hosted Cleveland in a Northern Counties fixture on a cold morning at Bullocksteads.

The hosts started brightly and had the best of the early exchanges with Nick Jarvis Smith (St Cuthberts) causing the visitors problems down the right, his cross seeing Luke Balmer denied by a last minute tackle.

Oliver Young (RGS) set up Tom Potter (Whitley Bay) but his chance which was cleared by the Cleveland defence.

Just before half time Northumberland goalkeeper Callum Straker (TyneMet) made a great save.

Northumberland’s Adam Baines (Ashington) forced a point blank save from the Cleveland goalkeeper before the visitors opened the scoring when a cross from the left found an unmarked forward to head past Straker.

The hosts pressed for an equaliser and Baines was brought down in the box, with Liam Doyle (TyneMet) dispatching the spot kick to equalise.

Northumberland had a chance in the closing stages to win the game but the Cleveland keeper foiled Femi Williams (Monkseaton) to ensure the game finished 1-1.
