TWO ties were played in the Morpeth Sunday League George Cave Cup this week as these games have now been given priority due to the league’s backlog of fixtures.
Alnmouth Argyle progressed to the quarter-finals as they recorded a 3-0 win at home to Village Inn Longframlington thanks to goals from Ryan Taylor, Mikey Hall and John Winter.
In the competition’s other game, Pegswood Ex progressed to the semi-finals as they thrashed East Chevington 5-1 courtesy of braces from Ashley McAlpine and Stuart Marshall with their other strike coming from Matthew Cummings, David Shepherd scored a consolation goal for East Chevington.
In division one, Bedlington Barrington Arms earned a hard fought 3-0 away victory against Red Row. Scoring for ‘The Monkey’ were Craig Stafford, Dylan Williamson and David Scott.
Ashington RAOB recorded a fine 4-1 win against Morpeth Chantry with goals from Mark Race, Kevin Towers, Darren Reay and Gav Dick, with Chantry’s solitary goal coming from Mark Wilkinson.
Rounding off the division one action were Amble Tavern as they defeated Amble Dock Hotel 4-0 with Ryan Douglas and Ali Turvey grabbing a goal each and Richie Hume notched a deadly double.
In division two, Riverside Lodge keep racking up the wins and they are starting to look uncatchable in the race for the title as they edged out Amble Blue Bell 6-4.
Scorers for Riverside were Chris Martin (3), Darren Percy, Nathan Williamson and Mark Robertson. John Spears and Dan Fairbridge both got two each in response for Amble Blue Bell.
North End Trap continued their recent run of good form beating HMP Northumberland 3-0 thanks to a double from Phil Airey and a single goal from Kevin Chapman.
In the division’s final game, Blackthorn Rovers and Shakespeare Tavern scrapped to a 2-2 draw. On target for Blackthorn was their returning midfield maestro Vitali Bedakurau, after he briefly left the club for North End Trap, and Kevin Rainbow. The Shakespeare responses were scored by Sean Black and Dale Wilkinson.
