Pegswood extend lead in Morpeth Sunday League

IN division one of the Morpeth Sunday League, Pegswood extended their lead at the top of the table to six points after defeating Morpeth Chantry 5-1.

Pegswood’s Wyn Fremlin helped himself to a hat-trick with the other two goals coming from Stu Marshall and Matt Cummings, while Chantry’s consolation was scored by Matty Wilkinson.

In the game of the day, Amble Tavern and Red Row played out a 4-4 thriller with both teams creating several chances.

Scoring for Amble were Josh Hay (3) and Ricky Hume with the Red Row responses coming from Sean Palmer, Liam Ramsay, Reece Ramsay and an own goal.

Rounding off the division one action this week were Amble Dock Hotel as they comfortably beat Village Inn Longframlington 6-0 courtesy of four goals from David Wenray and a brace from Carl Taylor.

In the eagerly awaited top of the table clash in division two, Riverside Lodge edged out Bomarsund 4-3 to go 12 points clear at the top, a lead which will undoubtedly be difficult to overturn.

Notching for Riverside were Darren Percy (2) Glean Reardon and Nathan Williamson from the penalty spot, with the Bomarsund goals coming from Steven Slaughter, Ryan Bell and Ross Muter.

In the division’s only other game, Alnmouth Argyle overcame bottom club Amble Blue Bell 2-0 thanks to strikes from Jordan Frost and Liam Roper.

In the last of the Dobfar Cup quarter-finals, North End Trap Broomhill thrashed East Chevington 5-1 to take their place in the semi-finals courtesy of a Marc Nixon hat-trick and a deadly double from Peter Godfrey. The East Chevington consolation was scored by Paul Smith.
